An exciting two day adventure on the South Fork American River!

River Otter Adventures specializes in wilderness river expeditions. Everything we need is taken down the river along with your belongings (travel light please).

We meet at beautiful Camp Lotus where you will store your gear with our oar boat crew then board our shuttle vehicle for a quick ride to the put-in which sits just below the Chili Bar dam. At Chili Bar crews and boats are assigned, jackets and paddles are handed out then, after some instruction a safety talk, we board our rafts and off we go.

Enjoy mile after mile of thrilling white water and breathtaking scenery as you travel down the river and into the past. Evidence of the 49er gold rush abounds including Sutter's Mill where it all began, old trails and slate roads built by the Chinese, and river rock mounds create by mining activities.

After an exciting day of running rapids you are once again reunited with your camping gear as you pull into camp. relax... do some hiking, explore the old mine or fish the river running by your camp. Bring a water proof camera and make some memories that will last a life time. We do the work in camp. Enjoy the dinner meal prepared by your guides in our wilderness kitchen. Oh yes, they can cook too!

Sleep in the next morning "after all you are on vacation" no need to rise early because you are camped in the shadow FOWLERS ROCK, the beginning of the GORGE. Ten more miles of white water and possibly the most exciting ride on the South Fork. The smell of bacon on the griddle will rouse you to breakfast and fortify you for the days river running.

Experience the river the way the first settlers did. No roads, no phones, no worries! Just the sounds of the river, birds, and wild life. The stars put on a show seldom seen in populated areas. This is river camping the way we who love rivers camp!!!
